The Story of Moncha
HOW MONCHA STARTED
It Begins with Sunrise
At the very origin of Moncha, there is a desire to deliver the quiet beauty found within Japan to someone else. Our founder, Hiroshi, was once an actor on the stage of historical dramas (Jidaigeki). What he learned from his master there was not just acting, but the heart of Japan. Philosophies that have flowed since ancient times. The spirit of Zen. The beauty found within stillness. Delicate attentiveness.

Those sensations remained deeply in his heart. The turning point was the first sunrise of the year, on January 1st, 2025. When he saw the light spreading quietly, he strongly felt "I want to deliver this scenery, along with this very atmosphere, to the world." Later, an encounter with the profound world of matcha—introduced to him by someone he met—became the catalyst.
Through this encounter, the form of what he wanted to deliver slowly came into view. Not just something to taste, but a time to see, to smell, to taste, and to enjoy the atmosphere itself. He wanted to turn such a small, rich experience into a box and deliver it. That thought is the origin of Moncha.
Discoveries Across Japan
To deliver the beauty of Japan as Moncha, we met new companions, traveled across Japan to meet various people, and went to hear their stories.
Not just famous tourist destinations, but places whose names we didn't even know. As we traveled through these regions, something slowly became clear.

It happened when we wandered into a small shop during one of our journeys. Looking at the items on the shelves, we felt that captivating sensation of "I've never seen anything like this." "I want to take this home with me."
What we realized in that moment was this: What we want to deliver through Moncha is not simply "Japanese things," but that very sensation of the heart moving when you encounter something on a journey.
Moncha doesn't just line up things we found in various regions. We want to deliver them as a single experience along with the atmosphere of the land, the presence of the people, and the very reasons that make you want to take them home.
Shaped by Connection
Around the same time, as we continued to share our journey, we also encountered many wonderful people and words.
Even when we are far apart, we can see the same things, feel the same things, and exchange words. We believe that the encounters born through social media have slowly guided Moncha to the shape it has today.
That sensation of Japan and the world connecting still holds a special kind of wonder for us.

Moncha has been nurtured within those connections.
From the past to the present. From Japan to the world. From offline to online.
Encounters with people who love Japan and matcha, transcending places and distances, have slowly shaped the Moncha of today.
That is why Moncha is not just a snack box. Through sweets, matcha, and pieces of Japanese culture, it is an experience designed to bring a small journey into your everyday life.
And Moncha is not yet a completed brand. It is a brand that will continue to grow and change shape, little by little, together with the people we have yet to meet. If you can find your own small journey and discovery inside this box, we believe that, too, is the continuation of Moncha.
